Leg Sleeve

Japanese Traditional tattoo patterns to be placed on leg

Leg Tattoos

In Irezumi such thing like a ‘leg sleeve’ as a separated piece of tattoo simply doesn’t exist since anatomically can not be 'framed' to comple Gaku-bori. Traditionally leg tattoos assumed to be connected to a back piece as a part of a bodysuit.

In order to be recognized as a 'sleeve' leg tattoo, the design must encircle the leg and can be executed in various methods, based on the type of bodysuit selected by the customer.

Part of a Bodysuit

When selecting the 'Munewari' bodysuit, the tattoo frame has the unique ability to extend seamlessly down the thigh, creating a graceful curve that elegantly connects to the bottom of the 'Sewari.' This specific style of Gaku is distinct in that it cannot be classified as a traditional sleeve, as it remains open on the inner side of the leg, allowing for a striking and innovative design that showcases the artistry and precision of Japanese tattooing.

Lenght

There are different patterns which can be tattooed on legs appearing a ‘leg sleeve’:

Han-zubon(Gobu, 5/10 sleeve) – Just above a knee,

Hati-bu(Shichibu, 7/10 sleeve)- under a knee

Naga-zubon(Long sleeve) – just above an ankle.

Not the Sleeves

This particular style of "leg sleeves," featuring tattoos extending from the ankle to the thigh, should not be classified as the 'Japanese traditional' form of Irezumi. This can only be achieved through Nukibori, without the use of any Mikiri, and not in a 'framed' manner.

We strictly avoid creating such tattoos in our studio!
